Our Current Prayer Needs: A Letter from Mark
"The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much." (James 5:16)
We at Lamplighter invite you to partner with us in our great mission of making ready a people prepared for the Lord (Luke 1:17)
We live in a day when God is no longer sought after and is no longer considered the most important relationship in life. Without an intimate relationship with and knowledge of God, man will do that which is right in his own eyes, thereby forfeiting the blessings designed for him. At Lamplighter, it is our mission to attract people to God through Lamplighter’s life-transforming stories and resources, through which we are humbled by the knowledge of His love, grateful for His generous measure of grace, and awed by His magnificent power! Consider the following testimony to the power of prayer:
Charles Finney was the greatest Presbyterian evangelist who ever lived. In the late 1800’s, he swept through New England, Pennsylvania, and Ohio, igniting the fires of revival. During his ministry, he made tens of thousands of converts. Lives were healed; alcoholics became sober; employers stopped abusing their employees; divided families were restored. But the secret to Finney’s “success” was an intercessor, who preceded each of Finney’s campaigns. The intercessor arrived two weeks before Finney was scheduled to preach, and he prayed and prayed day after day for the community. But in 1887, Finney’s intercessor died. Finney’s next campaign was a failure, and within a year he retired from his work as an evangelist.
So thank God for intercessors, for every prayer that is offered in this family of faith, for those of you who day after day carve out those extra ten or twenty minutes to offer your prayers to the throne of grace. The enemy will whisper, “It doesn’t matter.” God’s word tells you that it does. The work of intercessors isn’t easy; it is often lonely. But trust me, if we cease to pray, our effectiveness as a church is over.

Let him know, that he which converts a sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. (James 5:20)
