Book Review by J________
Mark ,
I hope all is well for you. First I want to thank you. You have been one of the most positive influences in my Christian life. Like you, if a loser like you can do it, so can I. Today I realize I am a Prince because my Father is a King. I hope to one day carry the message of hope to those in the dark.
Now for the books. I've read four.
First Tom Watkins' Mistake : The book hit home with me because of the quest for the material things of the world; how greed leads to dishonesty, and how that can start a chain reaction to a whole other set of problems, affecting not only us, but our loved ones.
Christie's Old Organ : This book brought tears more than a few times. The boy's quest for the word, then him telling his master the good news of how he can get to heaven. Home Sweet Home.
Shipwrecked, But not Lost : It was an awesome adventure. The boys showing so much faith and trusting God. Also, when they continued to build up stores, just in case someone else got lost really touched me; the unselfishness of their act. Also the gratitude to the captain who left supplies for them.
Now for my favorite book so far: Hedge of Thorns : This book hit home for me so hard, I know God has laid out a path for me. But the Devil, through my weakness (addiction) has gotten me to stray off the path and push through the hedge. I would go off of God's path even knowing that I would be hurt, knowing that the fruits on the other side were no good for me. The temptation of the flesh has been so great that, just like John in the story, I would sacrifice loved ones, just like he did with little Belle. Also, just like John, I hope to finally learn that God's path is the only way. It took him more than one time going astray. God knows I've gone astray more than that. I just pray that I can stay in the Spirit, win my battle against the flesh, and stay on God's path for me.
Thank you for coming to teach us and for the great books you bring. They have changed my life; you have also. (Thanks.)
