Ishmael
The reason I feel this book should be read by many is: It shows Ishmael’s unwavering integrity and commitment to what is right in the eyes of our lord and savior, in which he persevered in all his life’s trials and tribulations.
Let me start by introducing Ishmael’s biological parents. Nora Worth, His mother was a peasant who with her sister, Hannah Worth, made their living by spinning and weaving wool. They lived in a hut located on the property of one Herman Brudenell, who was not only there landlord, but also Ishmael’s father.
Mr. Herman Brudenell returned from abroad to receive his inheritance and celebrate his twenty-first birthday, where at the celebration he met Ms. Nora Worth for the first time in over ten years. It was love at first sight. After thinking he was a widower, Mr. Brudenell started courting Ms. Worth in private for his mother and Ms. Hannah Worth forbid their relationship due to great difference in the social backgrounds. Finally, they secretly married and Ishmael was conceived in the deepest depths of love, unfortunately circumstances caused his mother to die soon after his birth, therefore, leaving her poor sister Hannah to care for this sickly, premature infant, Ishmael who was near death himself. His aunt Hannah constantly wished for his death, but he fought with a l inside himself to live and so he did, even though is other and his father left him to g o back aboard.
At a very young age Ishmael showed a great interest in books, starting with his Aunt Hannah’s family Bible where he spent hour upon hour looking at the pictures years before he could even read. His thirst for knowledge overwhelmed him and he began his studies where he excelled in all areas of academics, which in turn helped create his moral foundation and impeccable character. His commitment to his studies earned him a place among the most elite students in Mr. Middleton’s school room, where he attended his classes with boys and girls from a much higher social status where he in a very short time Ishmael surpassed even its brightest students. After finishing his studies at the schoolroom of Mr. Middleton, Ishmael rented his own school room across the county and began teaching to the poorest of students in the area, with great success, while continuing his quest for knowledge, Ishmael began working in the library of one Judge Merlin inventing and cataloging his law books. This is where Ishmael began his reading and studies of the law. He taught himself all aspects of law, while studying. He visited the local courthouse and observed court proceeding and procedures. After intense studies, Ishmael asked Judge Merlin about the bar exam. Explaining that he had taught himself law. Ishmael took the bar exam and of course passed it with fly8ing colors. Eh ten became the assistant of judge Merlin in Washington and eventually became a barrister himself, helping the poor and needy in his own law practice.
What we can learn from this history is that through our faith and perseverance, regardless of our social status, we can overcome any and all of lives challenged. Ishmael is by far the best book I have ever read. He is the definition of humility and focus.
