Mark's Blog

"We who preach & write, do so in a manner different from which the Scriptures have been written. We write while we make progress. We learn something new every day. We speak as we still knock for understanding…If anyone criticizes me when I have said what is right, he does me an injustice. But I would be more angry with the one who praises me and takes what I have written for Gospel truth than I would be with the one who criticizes me unfairly." Augustine

Mountain Climbing

"Life is a steep climb, and it does the heart good to have somebody "call
back" and cheerily beckon us on up the high hill. We are all climbers
together, and we must help one another. This mountain climbing is serious
business, but glorious. It takes strength and steady step to find the
summits. The outlook widens with the altitude. If anyone among us has
found anything worth while, we ought to 'call back.'"

Some food for thought...out of a devotional tonight..by GK Chesterton..

A good critic should be like God in the great saying of a Scottish mystic. George MacDonald said that God was easy to please but hard to satisfy. That paradox is the poise of all good artistic appreciation....

Sometimes Pleasing, Seldom Perfect...

Heb 13:16..."Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God."

Matthew 5:48..."Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect."

'Heavely Father we, know we can always do more to please you. Help us to see this fact as a cause for celebration, a reason to delight in the work you give us; may we not be pressed down by our responsibilites but be lifted up by them, for in doing your will we draw closer to you, closer to joy.'
