Mark's Blog

"We who preach & write, do so in a manner different from which the Scriptures have been written. We write while we make progress. We learn something new every day. We speak as we still knock for understanding…If anyone criticizes me when I have said what is right, he does me an injustice. But I would be more angry with the one who praises me and takes what I have written for Gospel truth than I would be with the one who criticizes me unfairly." Augustine

My Dad...Saturday at 11am,

For those who have been glancing at the blog site, you know that my dad went
to be with the Lord this past Tuesday at 12:15am...Feb, 12th. This Saturday
at 11am, I will be conducting a celebration service of his life and how he
came to know Jesus as his savior at seventy six years of age. This service
is going to be very unique and end with this short video (see the web
address below) that I have shared with you before. Please pray that many
who will come will begin to see their need of our Savior and His incredible
love. 'Thank you Lord for allowing me to be so privileged to have a dad
that modeled such an honorable life...i will strive to be like him, so that
Your reflection will be clearly seen."

Malachi 3:3 says: "He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver."

This verse puzzled some women in a Bible study and they wondered what this statement meant about the character and nature of God.

One of the women offered to find out the process of refining silver and get back to the group at their next Bible Study.

That week, the woman called a silversmith and made an appointment to watch him at work. She didn't mention anything about the reason for her interest beyond her curiosity about the process of refining Silver.

As she watched the silversmith, he held a piece of silver over the fire and let it heat up. He explained that in refining silver, one needed to hold the silver in the middle of the fire where the flames were hottest as to burn away all the impurities.

The woman thought about God holding us in such a hot spot; then she thought again about the verse that says: "He sits as a refiner and purifier of silver." She asked the silversmith if it was true that he had to sit there in front of the fire the whole time the silver was being refined.

The man answered that yes, he not only had to sit there holding the silver, but he had to keep his eyes on the silver the entire time it was in the fire. If the silver was left a moment too long in the flames, it would be destroyed.

The woman was silent for a moment. Then she asked the silversmith, "How do you know when the silver is fully refined?"

He smiled at her and answered, "Oh, that's easy -- when I see my image in it."

If today you are feeling the heat of the fire , remember that God has his eye on you and will keep watching you until He sees His image in you.

! Pass this on right now. This very moment, someone needs to know that God is watching over them.

And, whatever they're going through, they'll be a better person in the end.

Hey Mark-- I wanted to let you know that I just found your blog after I searched for a link for you for a post I wrote today. I am so sorry to hear about your dad and will be praying for you as you do the service.
What a blessing that he came to know the Lord before he went to be with Him! How our loving Heavenly Father patiently waits on us to come to Him.
Recently a friend of mine lost her husband. He died instantly of a massive heart attack. He was not a believer and this had been a long struggle for her as she persevered in praying for him. Just that morning, he told her, "You don't need to worry about me. I am saved." He died that night. It was hours before she realized the significance of what he had said. Even more sobering was the news that, based on the autopsy results, he had been in heart failure for probably a year and was at risk of this happening the whole time. But God had waited. Or so it would seem. My friend and their sons have taken great comfort in knowing they will be seeing their daddy in heaven some day.
I know it is the same for you.

Mark,
The video, in its simplicity, speaks to the very basics of our faith. Logan's words tug at your heartstrings, however, it also encourages you to reflect on how very much his words of faith are just that - a simple act.

Thank you for sharing this video. I am so priviledged to have had your Dad in my life for all these years. I love him dearly and will miss him so.

Love & Hope,
Pam
