I shall be safe?
In Deuteronomy there is a section that unnerves me. It is found in chapter
29 verses 18-20
"Beware lest there be among you a man or woman or clan or tribe whose heart
is turning away today from the Lord our God to go and serve the gods of
those nations. Beware lest there be among you a root bearing poisonous and
bitter fruit, one who, when he hears the words of this sworn covenant,
blesses himself in his heart, saying, 'I shall be safe, though I walk in the
stubbornness of my heart.' This will lead to the sweeping away of moist and
dry alike. The Lord will not be willing to forgive him, but rather the anger
of the Lord and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and the curses
written in this book will settle upon him, and the Lord will blot out his
name from under heaven."
The part that unnerves me is when he says, "I shall be safe, though I walk
in stubbornness..." This should sober all of us when we find ourselves in
the midst of conflicts that seem to always require humility...if we humble
ourselves, then truly we shall be safe.

Are we talking willful disobedience here or a life filled with challenges that teach us how to be humble... a life that challenges us to greater faith BY humility....
sometimes my 'stubborness' comes because I compeletely understand that My Father is sovereign, we have quite a history together...He allows stuff to happen to His children that isnt always 'blessed'..He allows stuff that quite actually stinks......but also in that same understanding of His sovereignty can come the 'peace that passes all understaning guarding our hearts and minds in Christ' that can comfort and strengthen our faith in Him, knowing He will care for his children as well....safe...its a dicey word isnt it..
