Word Is Out

"We who preach and write, do so in a manner different from which the Scriptures have been written. We write while we make progress. We learn something new every day. We speak as we still knock for understanding...If anyone criticizes me when I have said what is right, he does me an injustice. But I would be more angry with the one who praises me and takes what I have written for Gospel truth than I would be with the one who criticizes me unfairly. Augustine

Ponderings in Proverbs

video

I love the book of Proverbs. It is filled with the keys to the mysteries of
life and at the same time it creates its own mysteries, leaving us with a
sort of uncertainty about it meaning. In Proverbs 18:9 we read, "Whoever is
slack in his work is a brother to him who destroys." 19:15, "Slothfulness
casts into a deep sleep, and an idle person will suffer hunger." 20:13 "Love
not sleep, lest you come to poverty; open your eyes, and you will have
plenty of bread."

I love to work; I love to get up early and enjoy God's incredible creation.
But Proverbs also teaches that life must be lived in balance. I realize that
I am wired a little different than most, but I simple love to work...i see
it as a gift...but with any gift we can become overbalanced. So this morning
I also read in Proverbs 19:2, "Desire without knowledge is not good, and
whoever makes haste with his feet misses his way." This is probably where
the phrase, "Haste makes waste," comes from...not really a Bible verse like
most think. In Proverbs 19:23 we read, "The fear of the Lord leads to life,
and whoever has it rests satisfied; and will not be visited by harm." In
Proverbs 21:5 we read, "The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance,
but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty."
Balance! Work hard, plan, be diligent, don't be lazy, don't sleep
too much--but don't be in a hurry...think it through--"Whoever gives thought
to the word (or a matter) will discover good, and blessed is he who trusts
in the LORD." Proverbs 16:20
If you are keeping up with my flight instruction, please read the
previous blog...could use some prayer this morning!
