submission, sexist, prudent, and wise.
When I receive input from a blog post I always read it with the mind that
there is something for me to learn. If you read the two posts yesterday on
the Prudent Wife and the Sexist View, you will find two divergent views,
both with valuable input. Before I comment on them, I would like to give
time for other comments...i seem to have hit a nerve and don't want to rush
in before giving some reflection on how I should respond. Before I do, I
would like to say that a man should certainly be prudent as much as a
woman...just not in the context of the nature of a woman. Only women have
been designed by God to be the glue, the unifying force of her home. In many
ways, the woman, is a parallel to the Holy Spirit...even the words used in
Genesis would convey this; but let's save this for another day...my little
bit of research so far on the woman's role from God's perspective has
surprised me...words that I thought I knew the meaning are a little different
than what I believed them to be...i think everyone will be a little surprised at my
findings...well, if you have any comments on yesterdays blog and posts,
please send them...i think this one is going to be interesting!
Ps. I have been meditating upon this verse from Proverbs lately and
in light of our economic woes (and for what it is worth, any presidential
candidate who would leave and denounce his church after twenty years just
months prior to an election speaks volumes about his pragmatic world
view...i hope people can see through the charisma), it would be good to
consider:
"Do not toil to acquire wealth; be discerning enough to desist."
Proverbs 23:4 When we cultivate our God-given skills to serve Him and
others, money always comes; when our focus is to make money, people are
robbed of joy even if they get what they were looking for; and few seem to
find it. "The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and he adds no sorrow with
it." Proverbs 10:22

...I am reminded by Paul in Romans 12:1-2
I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.
As believers, as children of God, we must choose to follow an all wise Father who knows best...if we don't choose Him, we choose ourselves. That puts us in His place...we play God, not a position I want. We, by the renewing of our minds, will be transformed and with that transformation comes understanding, I know..I've been there, anyone who has been renewed has been there.....if we don't choose God, we wont understand, especially when it comes to controversial issues like submission...
There is no way to change the meaning of submission, but understanding in context is different...Webster says it is to yield to the authority of another., to surrender or, and this is interesting..to present to another for review...I think this is important especially when we think to submit means to give up everything...to be dominated by..to not have a say...to submit is humbling...but..
Submission doesn't mean to dominate, and submitting certainly doesn't mean we give up our identity, if anything it encourages it, to become who we are meant to be, in Christ..Our worth, oh our worth we can never understand or fathom... but each one of us, man and woman are equally worthy...just because we are His..doesn't get much better than that !...God gives us each specific roles to partake in, with Him, in this journeyy called life. We all need a direction. Notice though, that the verses in Ephesians...there is way more instruction for the man, than the woman...we are supposed to glean from the love shown to us from your spouse..loving like Christ, a man who loves like Christ, why would you want any different..?...because man is made in the image of God, man is the reflection, woman is the essence of that reflection...it can be beautiful...we both need to work on it, not just us women, men too, but I am not an authority on men...phew..!
As women we need to do what Eve didnt do...step back away from the temptation to lead....and men need to step up to their roles and calling TO lead....but that isnt saying we cannot communicate in harmony...dont try to read, interpret scripture without the whole context of the verses....men have a role and women have a role...together...it can be harmonious when loved and submitted to...a man can love his wife by listening, dont we want to be listened to..desperately..and we can submit by not offering advice that is hard and fast and...or else...!...if you are guiding your life by scripture..the most important thing that needs to be mentioned is grace...grace is a must, Mark said women are the glue but...they are the glue that is filled with grace...mercy...and grace...grace is undeserved...and I dont know about you, but I dont deserve a bit of the immeasurable amount I have received..but the thing about grace is, once you get it, it isnt for you...it is to give away...to those you love...You are saved by GRACE, through FAITH.....no faith,...no grace...
I think in our own way we have already married the past into the future...we have tried and tried and tried to make things different than what God dictates, and I think maybe that is a big part of our problem today. We cannot possible change the word of God. it is for today, yesterday, two thousand years ago...it in ink...no erasing, no changing, no adding...it is the Word of God...it might not be groovy, but it is our manual for life...we will be blessed when we follow the 'rules'.....dont follow the rules and it will cost you...a marriage, a child....a job...anything God sees fit to take away..so you get it,...trust me, He does...
God does use women and men...profoundly when the 'act' they way we are supposed to....just like our children...when they are good listeners, they are trusted more and with more than that child who is defiant.....(Mark, where is that verse..you know which one I mean...!!..help me here..)
The tragic way women are treated in other countries is evident of a God they serve, it isnt the loving God of the cross, Jesus our Lord....and that is not sexism...it is brutal dominance....and they need our prayers...fervently.
Concerning the last paragraph in the above comment: Don't think that many women in our country in marriages claiming Jesus as Lord aren't living in brutal dominance. The loving God of the cross is not taught in many churches. You don't have to look to other countries to view abusive brutality. Just look around in your church and know that it is there also. Quiet, but nonetheless real.
