Twist on Proverbs 12:27 Diligence
Here is a twist on meaning...when I find ambiguity in the Scripture I have
found that it is usually intentional.
Proverbs 12:27 states in the King James, "The slothful man roasts not that
which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious."
In the ESV it states: " Whoever is slothful will not roast his game, but the
diligent man will get precious wealth."
Or it could be translated, "Whoever is lazy will not roast his game, but
diligence is a man's precious wealth."
At first glance it would appear that the King James translated it most accurately, but I do have to consider the third option as well...i love ambiguity!
I have really found that Christians in the west are among some of the laziest people on earth. Please don't misunderstand...i realize that most of the people who read my blog are industrious, hard working, mothers who work tirelessly, fathers who work 12 to 14 hours a day etc...but among the masses, I see that Christians are amusing themselves to death, caught in the trap of pseudo pursuits...what are pseudo pursuits? The word pseudo means fake, pretend, simulated, artificial, bogus, counterfeit, imitation. The past president of USC wrote how Americans have fallen into the trap of reading the newspaper every morning...a newspaper filled with pseudo information that has little to do with our lives. I personally haven't read a newspaper in years. Once I learned how newspapers and magazines are nothing more than manufactured information for the purpose of advertising and promoting irrelevant information and for the most part an anti Christian world view...or information that would appear relevant, it was a simple choice to begin spending time with reading books of substance. Even as a non-Christian, this president advised that the Bible was one of the super books that should be read by all. I don't know about you, but reading the Bible, biographies, books devoted to my career and now aviation, I could not imagine having time to read peripheral pseudo printings. I have said this before but only 5% of the entire north American continent reads non-fiction...We are slipping into a moral and economic decline that is going to continue unless God's people start growing in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus. It is time to awake out of our sleep and with a sense of renewed diligence do all that we can to make a difference for Christ...i love what Peter wrote in his second letter about this:
Whereby are given to us exceeding great and precious promises, which allows us to share in the divine nature, and escape the lustful corruption in this world. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge self control; and to self control, endurance; and to endurance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. For if these things be in you and abound, they will make you that you will neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacks these things is blind and cannot see afar off, and has forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brothers, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if you do these things, you will never fall:
Now that is a promise worth doing something about…the reward for diligence!
It is righteousness that exalts a nation…not the military, nor the government, nor wall street…
