Lions Lake and the Cows
I was just writing to a new friend that I met on the plane and after reading what I wrote, I thought I would share this with you as well. Good morning to all…beautiful day to bless the Lord! His praise shall continually be in my mouth.
On my way to Lion's lake again; beautiful up there. I came across something interesting this morning that you might want to consider. I was reading in the book of the prophet Jonah. Most people would consider this story to be about Jonah and a whale. No, I do not believe that anyone can live three days and nights in the belly of a whale—impossible. It would take a miracle for this to occur—possible. Anyway, four times, Jonah expresses that he would rather be dead. I like this guy; he pulls no punches about his feelings and how he views others that are not deserving of God's mercy—he is rather caught up in himself though; caught in his own circumstances of life—his is unable to see how life is all connected, revealing specific meaning. I hope I am not being presumptuous—that you would be interested in this OT anomaly. I say anomaly because several things occur in this book that go beyond reason. First, we have the story of a whale swallowing a man and vomiting him back on the land. Then we have the shortest message that anyone has ever preached, that caused the greatest response in world history—an entire city in ancient Iran turned to the living God in repentance. Their repentance was so drastic that they made even their animals go without food and water for three days…the people did the same. And then the greatest anomaly is found in the prophets last four words: "…and also many cows?"
