so...besides reading to your child, and having them read as much as they can tolerated sitting still.. while time passes to develop their brains...what would you offer as a suggestion to help this child organize, focus and concentrate and stay on task..?
Since I do not have enough information concerning the age of the child, relationships, home environment, siblings, health history etc, this is difficult to respond to…however, I would say this: the most important and most powerful influence in a child's life is his parents stability in marriage and their relationship with the Lord. Everything else is minor. Children who grow up in grace filled, humble, kind, merciful, truthful, disciplined homes, usually grow up to be balanced and godly young adults. I say usually because one's relationship to Christ is always personal and cannot be transferred no matter how righteous the parents are.
Secondly, I would keep children away from the media's influence at all cost. I would not have a tv or have them involved with computers at an early age. Keep them learning in God's great outdoors; introduce them to live classical music….oh, I could list 100 experiences, but each parent needs to pray and find those experiences that are best for them. Limit sports to a few that you can handle as a family and do not join travel teams that play on Sunday.
Consider apprentice opportunities with other godly adults who are highly skilled…consider a one day to a few weeks, to a whole summer as they approach young adulthood. Most important, convince your children that there is no such thing as adolescence! Yes they will go through dramatic bodily and chemical changes as they leave childhood, but this is a time for self discipline so that they will never need to be disciplined by anyone else…thus the entrance into adulthood. Unfortunately, today, childhood is not ranging from 1 to 36 years of age.
For the child the most important activity is to hide God's Word in their heart. Both Joshua and David understood its importance as they share that everything one does will prosper if they consider the Word daily. This life really is not that difficult to understand…it starts with God and ends with God and everything in between must be with God's help…He is our all in all!
