Look who's reading Lamplighter books!

Dear Mark,
Here are the long-awaited pictures from India of the students with the books that we sent. One of the teachers is using the books as part of the curriculum for her English class. Thank you again for your help in getting these books to them. I know God will use them for His glory.
In Christ,
A friend of Lamplighter

Dear Lamplighter staff,
Greetings in Christ. I live in Canada and my family and I are enjoying your rare collector books. We especially appreciate that the gospel is presented so clearly in so many of them. The "old fashioned" values (purity, integrity, submission to God's will, good work ethics) are so hard to find in today's literature. Thank you for the work you do so diligently in producing these books. I have always enjoyed sharing books, resources and ideas with other Home Schoolers. Lately I have had a growing desire to sell your books.
- Grateful
P.S. My favourite Lamplighter book is Christie's Old Organ.

The following four letters were an encouragement to us from the Tribal Academy in Fence Lake, NM:
Dear Mark,
When I read your letter I immediately went and spent some time thanking God. To explain: one day while out running, I had just looked at your newest catalogue and was thinking about what a wonderful resource your beautiful books are for our community. I felt strongly from the Lord to write and ask you to donate the newest ones. As I pondered this idea, the Spirit impressed me that if I explained our position to you and trusted Him that He would make a way. So, I wrote the letter and put it in God's hands with faith believing.
After reading your reply the Lord again showed me that He always does what He says. I repented for my unbelief and doubt. This is an answer to our prayers. I wasn't the only one praying. Remember the girl, Hannah, I mentioned in my request who has read all your books, many more than once? She and I were both praying, and she's a very determined young lady. God has used this example of answered prayer to build me up in my faith to believe God for other things I am praying for, especially the return of dear ones who have strayed far from God. God has given me assurance that He will bring them back to Himself, although in my carnal reasoning the situation seems hopeless. We must learn to look to God in faith believing, no matter how the circumstances appear.
Again, on behalf of the entire community, we want to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for your willingness to help us with the books. Above all we thank God for making a way.
- Lt. Col. Peter Green, director of Tribal Academy in Fence Lake, NM

Praise God and greetings once again. Just writing to let you know the books finally arrived (3 days late thanks to our remoteness and new UPS drivers)! The excitement level was high. I promised Hannah she could open the box (sometimes little things mean a lot). We were all very impressed with such beautifully done work. We gave thanks to the Lord for this great blessing. Give our compliments to your graphics team and printers. Also thank Mr. Hamby for his diligence and care in selecting such meaningful and character building stories. Everyone picked a book to read right off and were well through them by that evening.
- Lt. Col. Peter Green

Thank you very much for donating the last 2 sets of Lamplighter Books to our school. I really appreciate these books. They
teach such good principles and have such excellent morals. I've done book reports on these books when I was in school and really enjoyed it. My favorites are Ishmael and the Wide, Wide World. All the books are excellent and I have bread them over and over....I wish everybody could read these books. Ishmael has become my model and I wish he was everyone's model. He was such a good Christian...

I am very glad that you are doing what you are doing! Good books are very rare and precious nowadays. Most modern stuff is just trash. I am so glad that Peter found your books, because I love having lots of good books to read.. It is wonderful to have a library stocked with wholesome Christian books, and thanks for helping to stock ours.
- Victoria Diaz River, Hannah's best friend ..she and Hannah take turns reading aloud while the other one works, so
they can enjoy the books and get work done at the same time.

Your ministry with
Lamplighter Publishing far surpasses what you can imagine. Although I was alone when I read
The Hidden Hand, I laughed aloud and
couldn’t continue until I had calmed down! Never in one book have I
laughed and cried aloud! Fabulous book!
The Hidden Hand ranks
among the top five books I have ever read! I just wish that these
books were more circulated so that more people could enjoy and
benefit from them. You have such a ministry!

I would like to take a
moment and share a wonderful experience that happened to one of our
eight children as a result of the impact of
Teddy’s Button.
Our four year old all boy. After finishing the book he looked up at
me and said, “Mom, I want to be born again too.” I explained to him
again what this meant and told him that if he truly wanted to ask
Jesus into his heart that he would need to talk to Jesus himself. We
held hands and he said, “Jesus, I ask you to come to live in my
heart. I want you to take away all of my sin. I want to be in your
army. I thank you for writing my name in your book. Amen.” He was so
overcome with joy that he burst into tears when he tried to tell his
older siblings what had just happened. A few minutes later he said,
“Mom, can I tell you something?” “Sure”, I said. “Mom, I am never
going to do anything wrong ever again.” I began to tell him that
though I appreciated the intent of his heart and so did God, that he
would probably fall short, just like Teddy did. That was enough for
him. He went off to play. He constantly tells me that “bully” is
trying to get him to do wrong things. What a blessing these books
have been to our family. I could go on and on with testimonies such
as these. My 14-year-old daughter’s life has been extremely
transformed as a result of
The Lamplighter,
The House of
Love,
The Wide, Wide World and countless others. We
value these books more than our food. No joke. Thanks a
million!!! - Joan

I was so impressed by what
you said about the Lamplighter books that I purchased all fourteen
sets. All four of my children have been reading them, but my
daughter has been affected the most. Writing has always been
difficult for her because of her dyslexia; lately, I have noticed
that her writing has changed. One day I asked her, “This writing is
good, Jen, how do you do this?” Her answer amazed me, and you would
have chuckled to see her. With shoulders square and lifted, she
stretched her seventeen-year-old, five-foot frame, loftily tilted
her nose to the sky, closed her eyes purposefully, and pressed her
fingertips deeply into her chest. With an unquestionable finality,
she answered, “I (and she tossed her head backward) read Lamplighter
books!”
I have no doubt that Jen will take her writing places that
no one ever dreamed she had the ability to go. Thanks, Mr. Hamby! -
Jen’s very pleased mother, Dora

I am fifteen years old and
I am developing my classical book collection. Well, I started
reading Ishmael on my way home from the convention and I never
stopped reading it until it was completed! Not only did this book
hold my attention (like few books of this century do for teens my
age), but I gleaned SO many Godly principles from Ishmael’s life and
was able to put them into practice.
Ishmael and
Self-Raised are no doubt two of my favorite books. All of the
advertisements concerning these books were true. Concerning
vocabulary building, morals, and suspense, the author wove together
a masterpiece of literature. You can be sure that I am your customer
for life. God bless. - In His Steps, Brody Pav

“…I would like to express my thanks for printing The Basket of Flowers. It is a wonderful book with many virtues
we need today in this world. The The Basket of Flowers has given me a new perspective of the Bible and at the same
time making a better Christian out of me and my family. Thank you so much!” – Carissa
* * * * * *
“The Basket of Flowers is a charming and delightful book. It is like breathing the sweet air of a lost era…Many
writers in our day of harsh reality and pretended sophistication, The Basket of Flowers leads the reader to
delight in God. Rich biblical truths about the nature of the Christian life create an aroma as sweet as the
flowers for which the book is named. You will want to read this book to your children again and again. They
will love it, and it will teach you how to shepherd their hearts.” - Dr. Tedd Tripp, author of Shepherding a
Child’s Heart

“The beautiful story of a godly widower and his impeccably honest daughter. When the child is falsely accused,
her father points her to the Lord who is judge of all and has promise to be our guide and protector. Punished
because of another’s sin, the child is ultimately vindicated in a most astonishing way. I am giving this book to
grandchildren and surrogate grandchildren. I have no doubt that they will devour it.” – Elisabeth Elliot, author
of Passion and Purity after reading The Basket of Flowers

“Now well into my seventh decade of life and a lover of books and their tales, I can easily say that nothing
apart from the Bible has warmed my heart like The Basket of Flowers, published by Lamplighter Publishing and
Cornerstone Family Ministries. The warmth of people walking in the Spirit pervades throughout the book. There
is more than sufficient intrigue and suspense to keep one reading. At the same time, principles of righteous
living that are not legalistic are being convincingly communicated. It certainly is “a tale for the young” to
read and to allow its truths to set the direction of their lives. This book is a novel presentation of the
truths of Proverbs, especially 4:18-19 and 13:14-15 - Wyman

“I have a ten-year-old son who is not excited about reading in the least (except for things like the Sports
page). I bought some action/ adventure books…He still was just not thrilled about having to pick one up and
begin. I told him to go to our bookshelves and make a selection because I just didn’t know what to do. He came
back with Boys of Grit much to my delight…He read the first chapter, said he liked it, and began to narrate back
to me what he had read! What a blessing!” - Sherry

“Two nights ago I read The Captive to my children. After a few chapters they were sleeping soundly, yet I felt
compelled to keep reading aloud. I couldn't put the book down. My heart was stirred and blessed by the grace of
God again and again. I found myself tearing up few times and rededicating my life to the Lord. Oh, that God would
grant me to simple yet powerful faith of Anselmo! I felt as if I had found a pearl in this precious little book
and for a moment was both mourning and rejoicing at the same time. I was mourning that my children had fallen
asleep and were unable to reap the blessings of a such a challenging and captivating story, (but that could be
corrected as I could simply read it to them again). I felt deeply blessed as alone with my God, I had the freedom
to savor every moment without the interruption of questions which I normally would welcome. My love and
appreciation for the Savior deepened and widened that night. I was so moved and effected that at one point I
contemplated just reading the your books and the Bible for a few months just wondering how my heart would be
effected for good.” - Harry

"My family and I have been so blessed by your ministry. We have 3 boys ages 5, 6, & 8, who love listening to
these wonderful stories especially before bed. There have been many nights they were able to stay up later
because we all wanted to know what was going to happen next. It has been so exciting for me to see my children's
hearts truly touched by the lives of the characters, especially Teddy and Christie. Thank you for introducing our
family to this truly incredible literature.” - Bonnie

“…in reading The Hedge of Thorns with my son this morning, I feel much strengthened. ‘Of how much more value am
I than this little sparrow? And not one of these falls to the ground outside the very presence of God Himself.’
What reassurance this is for me and all who call upon the name of our Lord and Savior. Also from the book, ‘Even
if the path becomes difficult, my child, and even if God chooses for you the path of suffering, the riches of
Chris are a far greater reward both in this life and the life to come.’ My many thanks again…I am one of the many
I’m sure that are blessed time and time again by the examples of God’s grace, mercy, love and examples through
these books.” - Keressa

“As a family we have read over 30 Lamplighter books as part of our family worship/devotion time over the past
couple of years. We have learned a lot----it’s great to read literature that has characters with such wonderful
qualities! Doris from The House of Love was just wonderful! I’ll never forget when they were coming back home the
evening when she thought that Borka was going to try and rob them-----She was excited-----I thought it was to say
“I told you so----I was right”. Instead she’s excited that she had hidden the silverware and couldn’t wait to
dig it out. I don’t think she ever had a bad thought. We talked with our children about what’s in your heart is
what comes out. I think Doris only had good thoughts in her heart---even though she had great reason to have
many bad thoughts, especially concerning Mrs. Wilde. This was a great lesson for our family!” - Shawn

“The Hidden Hand reveals every emotion known to mankind. The reader follows anxiously after the adventures of
Capitola to see what lies ahead. The saddest part of this book is when you discover there are no more pages to
read!…I can see how a movie based on this book would not be a big success!”
* * * * * *
“I bought the book The Hidden Hand at the ACSI Convention in Anaheim…My wife and I read it to each other over a
two-week period, and we both agree that it is one of the finest books we have ever read. We have also encouraged
many others to read it. As a follower of Christ, I was especially encouraged by the providence of God that is
“seen” throughout the book, thus the title. The divine appointments of the Spirit-led life make me smile and
give me great joy. What a treat it was to watch the amazing events of Capitola’s life unfold through he skillful
writing of Mrs. Southworth and know that, although fictional, The Hidden Hand reflects the reality of the
transcended God’s immanence and activity in the affairs of man.” – Bill

“Thank you SO much for publishing The Hidden Hand! It is an EXCELLENT
book in every sense of the word! I recently read it to several of our
teenage daughters as a bedtime story and it was all we could do to stop
reading so we could go to bed! Several nights, we stayed up late just
because we couldn't put the book down! The story was a delightful combination of mystery and intrigue, but also
of grace and beauty. In spite of the evil plots of wicked men woven throughout the story, it was still
delightfully wholesome and refreshing. If there are any more books by this author, we'd be interested in
reading them!”

“…I've just finished the The Hidden Hand and it's everything you said it was. As I got closer and closer to
completing the read, I had conflicting emotions. One, I couldn't wait to finish the story, and two, "OH NO...I'M
ALMOST FINISHED !" Now that's a good book. Thanks for recommending it.”

“Jessica's First Prayer is a book that inspired me to be a light in dark lives like Jessica was…I recommend this
books to everyone, and pray they see the need to be a light in darkness just as I have.” - Andrea

“I opted to use [the Rare Collector books] as part of our morning devotion. We so enjoyed reading Teddy's Button
and it provided us with much discussion. I must say that when we read Jessica's First Prayer it gave us so much
to not only discuss but also a realization for my young daughters to feel blessed. Most morning readings were
met with tears as we read and went to prayer. I am grateful that these books have found a way into our home at
such a time when there is an over abundance of less than acceptable literature being published aimed at children.
Thank you.”

“Jessica's Mother is the best Lamplighter book I’ve ever read. It was the most touching and heartfelt story,
though it was sad. I felt touched at the end…The story goes on getting more suspenseful by the minute. You’ll
love this book, and you’re sure to find it interesting. I sure did. It let me know that I wasn’t reaching
enough people with his love.” – Erica

“I recently purchased some of these books and just finished Joel: A Boy of Galilee as a bed-time read aloud for
our two boys…The theme is over coming bitterness and un-forgiveness…Our eleven-year-old…said that it was one of
the best books that I have ever read to him. We might call the book “historical fiction”. Joel was a boy who
lived in Capernaum during the time of Jesus’ earthly ministry, death, and resurrection. While the events in his
personal life are fictional, there is interwoven among them many of the events form the life of Jesus…In fact, at
one point while I was reading, [my eleven-year-old] said, ‘I can see where this is going,’ and sure enough the
account led up to one of the well-known miracles of Jesus…The author has a wonderful way of telling the story
that may occasionally bring tears to the eyes.”

“Recently, I got the book Jill's Red Bag and read it to my two oldest girls, ages 8 and 10. We laughed, we
cried, and we thoroughly enjoyed the book. This book has left an impact on my girls the most of any so far in
application. They wanted to go through their personal money and figure out how much to save, how much to tithe
and how much to keep. Every dollar they now receive they want to do the same. On their tithe envelopes they
wrote “E___’s Red Bag” and “S___’s Red Bag”. A close friend of mine came up with the idea of sewing red
old-fashioned bags for them to keep their tithe money in and they will remember this book and how we need to give
back to God”. - Jodi

“Thursday, I had a day off from work and we read most of The Little Lamb together on the couch. I think I had
intended to read a couple of chapters…but the children kept saying ‘another chapter, please!’, so we kept
reading. It was a wonderful and relationship-building day. So, I see the immense value these books hold.
Anything that can keep a 5 year old daughter snuggled by her daddy on the couch is a wonderful thing!” – Jason

“We are currently reading Me and Nobbles. That is a great book! The kids just loved it-----our son (age 8)

she creates in her books.” - Shawn

“…Rosa of Linden Castle had me in tears and again I couldn’t stop reading. These are really great books. Thank
you so much.” - Chelsea

“We all enjoyed [Sir Knight] greatly, but it was our six-year old who continuously asked if I could read “the
Knight book”. My husband and I were amazed, as we originally thought the language would be a bit beyond his
grasp…He was soon acting out his own trials on his own Shining Way. For many weeks thereafter, both of our boys
would dress up in their capes and march outside to do battle with the Dark Knight. Even now, after asking him
months after the book was read, he can still recount the scene in the Chapel almost perfectly.” Kristina

“Sir Knight was an unexpected treasure that was orchestrated by a loving God as I was in the midst of one of
the darkest valleys of my life. As I experienced the death of a treasured dream, God used this literary gem in
such a vivid way that it is almost impossible to describe. It was like experiencing a kiss from God Himself as He
soothed my heart and dried my tears. I have since used these truths countless times to minister to hearts of
hurting friends. I anticipate that God will use this treasure in the lives of his people to see His kingdom and
character anew.” - Laurie

“Teddy's Button has captivated my class of 4th graders like no other book I’ve ever read. I’ve prayed with two
of them that were Christians to “become true stories” and It does such a clear job of expressing the true war we
are in. Thank you for finding and restoring this treasure! - Betty

Dear Mr. Hamby and Lamplighter Staff,
Congratulations! You have built my character one story at a time! I have twenty-five of your Rare Collector
books and have read eight of them; I have enjoyed them all so far! My most favorite though has been A Peep Behind The Scenes, this book has brought laughter and tears like no other book I've read! I strongly recommend it
to anyone and everyone who enjoys a good story. I’ll keep this book on the top of my list and on my bookshelf for
a long time to come. I have been to many book websites and not many are as neat and convenient as yours, keep up
the good work! Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105
Thanks, Laurel Age 13

Hello Mark,
In January of 2006 I ordered sixteen books to increase our Lamplighter library. Within a week I read six books.
The next week I read another six. The impact these books had on my life was astounding. I felt myself draw
closer to our Almighty God and experienced His love and grace through these powerful stories. My character also
became more Christ-like through the inspiration of the characters in the books. Mary and her father (The Basket of Flowers), Gertie (The Lamplighter), and Musdale and Daddy Ragsdale (The Open Door) have inspired me to be a
more devoted Christ follower, more appreciative of my husband with an increased desire to meet his needs, and
more sensitive, compassionate and loving towards our children. Thank you for making these books available to us
and the countless others in the world. May God bless you as you forward His Kingdom.
Appreciatively, Terra

wholesome books good for the edification and building of godly character. Thank you!” Johanna

“A heartwarming selection of books that not only teaches children right from wrong, but keeps their interest with

“This product line is FABULOUS! I have been collecting some of The Rare Collector’s Series over the years, which
started mostly due to my frustration with the poor quality of both the inside content and the outsides of
contemporary books. Mark Hamby has a true quality product line at reasonable prices. Long after you forget the
prices of paperback and hardback books, you will see the hardback as an heirloom on your bookshelf and the
paperback fallen apart in the trash.” Mary

Your books are wonderful! Good, edifying books are such a rare find anymore. We've read aloud as a family The Giant Killer,
and are currently reading Stranger at Home. I've also read The Basket of Flowers,
Amy and Her Brothers,
Ishmael,
and am currently working on Self-Raised.
Ishmael and Self-Raised are amongst my very favorites ever read!
It's so refreshing to read an "on the edge of your seat" book that is also edifying and encouraging in the Christian walk.
Nowadays, anything that has to do with love/romance/feelings is way too watered down with all the modern day, ungodly junk.
